Erected in remembrance of a fierce battle to keep the Gapyeong area during the Korean War by the ROK Army 5 th and 6 th Battalion and the US Army 9 th Battalion against the Chinese and North Korean Forces.
This monument was erected in order to commemorate the victory of the fierce battle of the ROK Army 6 th Battalion against the 63 rd Infantry and three other battalions of the Chinese Army in 1951 at Yongmunsan. At this battle, the 6 th Battalion was faced against the Spring Offensive by the Chinese Army and after a bloody war, they came out completely victorious. Through the victory of this battle, the foundation for a counter-offensive for the ROK and UN army was made. Furthermore, this battle is a battle remembered in world history and is used in strategic texts at West Point in the US .
The Yongmunsan Battle Monument is erected on an area that is 2853m 2 by the Veteran ' s Association on June 23, 1997 . It is 19.51m high and has a width of 19.50 m. There is a monument of four soldiers advancing. The height of 19.51m represents that the battle was fought in 1951 and the 19.50 width represents the year in which the Korean War started.
